Jarrett Banks (he/him) was born in Elizabeth City and raised in the small community of Shawboro in northeastern North Carolina. He is a 1988 graduate of Wingate College (Bachelor of Science), a 1992 graduate of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (Master of Divinity), and a 2005 graduate of Gardner-Webb University (Doctor of Ministry). Jarrett is ordained and commissioned by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
For more than three decades, Jarrett has served churches in Kentucky, Georgia, North Carolina, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. He now lives in Lynchburg, Virginia with his wife of 37 years, Lori, where he serves as the Senior Minister of the First Christian Church of Lynchburg.
Jarrett’s writings weave together scripture, storytelling, and a deep concern for justice in today’s world. Whether preaching from the pulpit, reflecting in essays, or offering prayers for the church and community, his work lifts up voices too often ignored and challenges systems that divide and oppress. With a style that is both pastoral and prophetic, Jarrett invites readers into honest engagement with faith, urging them toward courage, compassion, and solidarity.
